US President Joe Biden is “in very good health” after confirming he has COVID-19

US President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now self-isolating at the White House.

White House press secretary Karen Jean-Pierre said the 79-year-old president, who has been fully vaccinated and received two boosters, is experiencing “very mild symptoms” and will continue to perform all of his duties.

And she added in an official statement that the president is taking the antiviral drug “Paxlovid”.

Biden said in a tweet on Twitter that he was “in very good health” and was “busy on duty.”

His wife, First Lady Jill Biden, said she had tested negative.

In line with White House protocol, the president will continue to work from inside his isolation room, until his test result is negative, Jean-Pierre said, and will participate in meetings by phone and via the “Zoom” application.

Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House coordinator for COVID-19, said the president was tired and had a runny nose and a dry cough.
He added that Biden went to bed and he is fine, but he did not sleep well, and then he tested positive this morning

At a White House briefing Thursday afternoon, Jean-Pierre said Biden continued to work throughout the day and had calls with a number of county chiefs and US government officials.

Dr Jha said that the doses Biden received meant that his risk of serious illness was “significantly lower”, and further reduced due to the antiviral drug he is now taking.

He added that Biden will return to his normal activities as soon as his test result becomes negative.

Jean-Pierre had previously said that the White House medical unit would inform everyone who met the president during the day of his injury, including any members of Congress or journalists who were with Biden during his visit to Massachusetts on Wednesday. It is unclear where he was injured.

The first lady confirmed that she had spoken to her husband and that he was “fine”.

“He feels better,” she said. “My test result came back negative this morning. I will keep my schedule. As per CDC guidelines, I will wear a mask.”

The White House said Biden, the oldest president in US history who will turn 80 this year, tested negative for the last time on Tuesday.

Biden’s medical report had confirmed he was “fit for the job” and his doctor, Dr Kevin O’Connor, described him as “healthy” and “strong” during his last physical examination in November, according to BBC partner CBS. in the United States.
